Mount Rinjani
Mount Rinjani or Gunung Rinjani is an active volcano in Indonesia on the island of Lombok. It rises to 3,726 metres (12,224 ft), making it the second
highest volcano in Indonesia.
The
crater rim offers a fantastic panorama view of the Segara Anak
Lake and the volcano. This lake is approximately 2,000 metres
(6,600 ft) above sea level and estimated to be about 200 metres
(660 ft) deep, the caldera also contains hot springs.
From the
summit of Mount Rinjani you can see half of Lombok, Gili Meno, Gili
Air and Gili Trawangan as well as Bali. Depending on
the time you want to spend on the mountain you can also take a bath in the hot
springs, visit the caves camp on the lake or climb Mount Baru, the new little
volcano growing out of the crater.
Best
time for trekking Mount Rinjani
The best
time for making a hiking tour to Mount Rinjani is from April until
October, because the weather is normally very good during this time. Most
trekkers prefer to go to Senaru in July and August. Guests who prefer when it's
quieter, a visit to Lombok in April, May,June, September or October is
perfect.
The
Rinjani national park is closed from the beginning of January until the end of
March, so Mount Rinjani trekking is not available during this time.
Holidays
at the end of Ramadan (17th of July 2015)
As the end of Ramadan is a very special event for the people on Lombok
to celebrate with their family, trekking trips are not available on the 17th of
July 2015
